What Is IP Geolocation?

IP geolocation is the process of determining the geographic location associated with an IP address. Every device connected to the internet has an IP address, and databases map these addresses to approximate locations. This information includes the country, region, city, internet service provider (ISP), autonomous system number (ASN), and timezone. Note that IP geolocation is approximate — especially for mobile networks and VPNs — and should not be used for precise location tracking.

How to Use This Tool

Click 'Use My IP' to automatically look up your current public IP address, or enter any IPv4 address manually. The result shows location details in labeled cards: country with flag emoji, city and region, ISP and organization, timezone, and geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude). The data is fetched in real time from ipapi.co, a free and reliable geolocation API.

Privacy and Accuracy

IP geolocation has inherent limitations. Mobile carriers often show a city-level location of their headquarters rather than the user's actual location. VPN users will see the VPN server's location. Satellite internet users may show a different region entirely. The coordinates shown represent the approximate center of the IP's assigned area, not the exact location of the device. This tool does not store any IP addresses or lookup results.

Common Use Cases

  • Check your VPN exit node location
  • Verify where your server appears to users
  • Debug geolocation-based content restrictions
  • Investigate suspicious login IP addresses
  • Check the region of a CDN or proxy server
